MUCH NEEDED DOUGH FOR THE HAZELTONS!

Mar 06. 09

.
The BVCU Economic Development Committee recently donated $10,000 towards the start-up of the Skeena Bakery Project.

Skeena Bakery will bake craft style and daily breads as well as savoury and sweet treats. But that is not all it will do…

The retail storefront will include a small seating area for on-site consumption of bakery purchases. Fresh brewed coffee and tea will be sold as part of the retail counter service. As part of its social mission, the Society will hire people with mental, developmental and physical disabilities to work or volunteer in the bakery. Workers will be trained in traditional (non-mechanized) baking skills, with the possibility of suitable candidates obtaining a “Red Seal” baking apprenticeship.

The BVCU Economic Development Fund previously supported the project with $2000 that funded the development of a business plan for the venture. We wish the Skeena Bakery every success imaginable!
