BURNS LAKE AIRPORT FLIES HIGH WITH BVCU ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND
Nov 19. 07
The $10,000 donation helped the Airport Society reach its $400,000 goal to build a new terminal building at the airport.
Pictured receiving funds are Airport Society members John Grace & Glenn Tobin (L).
Over the past five years, the Airport Society has rebuilt and resurfaced the runway and installed runway lights.
They also expanded fuel capacity and constructed buildings to house the fuel tanks.
Upgraded runway maintenance equipment is now on site for 24 hour snow removal.
The airport handles in excess of 900 flights per year.
With lighting and snow removal now in place, corporate aircraft, private and commercial planes as well as the very important air ambulance are common sites at Baker Airport.
The new terminal will support expanded flight services and increase commercial opportunity in the Lakes District.
Having a viable airport is an important part of the Regional District/Village of Burns Lake strategic plan in the wake of the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic.
Funding was provided by Bulkley Valley Credit Unions Economic Development Fund.
The fund was developed by BVCU to strengthen our local economy and foster new economic growth in the communities we serve.
