Christmas Hamper Programs need you!

Smithers Community Services has overseen the Christmas Hamper program since 1983. The program is made possible completely through the generosity of the community and with the help of SCSA's one paid coordinator position. Over 350 hampers were distributed last year - 100% of the non-perishable food items, new toys, books, cash and the hours of labour to collect, sort and pack all of the hampers was donated. The support from the community is truly amazing. There are many ways for community members to get involved again this year. There is a Sponsor-A-Family program, where donors are matched with a family and then fill a hamper specifically for them. Many businesses participate in a matching program where employees donate an hour's pay and the employer matches their donations to support the program. Community groups, friends, co-workers and families often get together and plan for an afternoon or evening of volunteering at the depot. It takes a lot of hands to pack 350 hampers and it's always more fun with others!! And of course, we always need vehicles and drivers for delivery day Saturday, December 22nd this year. Adults are welcome to come by to choose an extra Christmas gift for the children in their lives.
