Community Funding

Economic Development Committee

The Economic Development Committee will review recommendations from the local Economic Development Sub-Committees for funding request within a specified budget amount set by the Board of Directors.

The Committee will evaluate these requests against written criteria that are approved by the Board of Directors.

The criteria are as follows:

• The request should generate new employment opportunities.
• The request should represent a sustainable project rather than a one-time funding opportunity.
• The request should represent a good partnership opportunity for both BVCU and other groups in our local communities today and in the future. The more partnerships created the more favorable the review of the request.
• The request could also create greater efficiencies and productivity in the work environment through innovation and training.
• The request could involve expanding the marketing and the marketplace of our local businesses.
• The request is not a loan to a business but a non-repayable grant to stimulate future economic development so it is not based on future cashflow or an ability to repay. However, the funds are targeted at businesses and economic      development not non-profit organizations, which can receive funding from BVCU’s Community Support Committees.
• The Committee will accept requests from various Trade Associations that may have been established as “non-profit” but are working on behalf of a local group of business interests.
• The Committee will support and nurture the formation of new co-operatives in each of the communities we serve.
